Tips, Brochures and Helpful Links

The Newport Beach Police Department handles numerous calls for service each day. It is the goal of the police department to provide the citizens of Newport Beach with the highest quality and most efficient service possible. You can help us better serve the community as a whole by following these simple guidelines when calling the police department.

Home Security
House How secure is your home? If you’re locked out of your home, can you still get in? Possibly through an unlocked window in the back, or by using an extra key hidden under a flowerpot on the front porch. If you can break into your home, so can a burglar! A small investment of time and money can make your home more secure. The Newport Beach Police Department offers free home security inspections to any resident of Newport Beach. A representative of the police department will review your current means of security and offer suggestions on how to improve the security of your home. They will also review the exterior of your home and discuss possible improvements to your lighting and landscaping that could reduce your chances of becoming a victim of this costly crime.

Personal Safety
Personal safety presentations are available for your church, school, neighborhood or business organizations. This program is designed to provide information and literature to heighten your awareness and enhance your personal safety. For more information, please contact the Crime Prevention Specialist at (949) 644-3699.

What is Suspicious?
No police department can function effectively without the concerned assistance of responsible citizens. We are depending on you to call and tell us whenever you observe suspicious persons or actions.

Some people fail to call the police simply because they are not aware of what seemingly innocent activities might be suspicious. Others may notice suspicious activity and are hesitant to call for fear of being seen as a “nosey neighbor”. Still others take it for granted that someone else has already called.

Vehicle Security?
A Thief looks for an easy opportunity. Don't let your vehicle or property be his next target!

Operation Identification
Operation Identification is the process of electronically engraving your California drivers license number onto your property so that it can easily be identified if stolen. Some valuables may, because of their size and/or nature, require alternative methods of marking to prevent damage. If marking an item would damage or destroy its value, an alternative method of recording that item, such as photography or videotaping, should be used.

Identity Theft

Telemarketing Fraud
Over the past few months our Crime Prevention Specialist has been asked several times to verify the legitimacy of various organizations who utilize telemarketing firms to solicit charitable donations by phone. It seems as though this method of generating revenue for charitable organizations is becoming increasingly popular. While there are many legitimate organizations that use this method of fundraising, there are also those that use telephone solicitation to fraudulently obtain money.
